During his free time, Dave enjoys playing tennis, playing video games, and performing as a part of his Ska band. These activities have been a major part of his life since high school, leading to his particion in six years of tennis, seven years of band, and multiple other leadership activities. Dave earned his Eagle Scout award in 2011, and has remained active in the Boy Scouts of America as an adult leader with his troop. Now in college, Dave has taken active rolls in his Residence Hall's organization, becoming Treasurer and subsequently President after less than a year. These positions allowed him to develop, maintain, and advise on the yearly hall budget and organize volunteers for large scale event operation. He has also gained work and leadership experience through emplyment in University Residences at Purdue, serving as a Resident Assistant for one year before being promoted to Staff Resident.
On a professional side, however, Dave has experience working in several positions demonstrating leadership, technical ability, and teamwork. The most prominant of these experiences lies in his work as an Electrical Engineering Intern with United Launch Alliance. Dave has worked with United Launch Alliance for two summers, the first in Cape Canaveral, FL and the second in Centennial, CO. During both summers, Dave led multi-disciplinary teams to define technical requirements for new projects prior to design initiation, developed new solutions for and improvements to numerous automatic control systems via multiple programming languages and methods, and most notably supported professional engineers and teams in testing, support, and troubleshooting of various vehicle and ground electrical communications and control systems.
Another notable example of these experiences lies in his work as an Honors First Year Engineering Peer Teaching Assistant. Dave is currently serving as head of the Grading Systems team, which works to ease and automate as much of the grading process as possible. With 270+ students in the class, grading is not an easy process, so assisting the team with it in any way possible is a crucial step. This team has developed, analyzed, and maintained numerous scripts used in student submission sorting, execution, originality checking, and grading. The team works closely between students and the rest of the teaching team, communicating needs, problems, and solutions as they arise. As a side effect of this assignment, Dave also had the opportunity to co-author a paper for publication with the American Society of Engineering Educators entitled Automation in Undergraduate Classes: Using Technology to Improve Grading Efficiency, Reliability, and Transparency in Large Classes
